Vape Not Working? Common Problems and Fixes

Most vape faults come down to charge, a worn coil, a loose pod, or e-liquid not reaching the coil. Here is how to work through them before you give up.

Most vape faults come down to four things: charge, a worn coil, a loose pod, or e-liquid not reaching the coil. Here is how to work through them before you give up on the device.

It will not fire

Start with the battery. A vape that does nothing is usually flat, so charge it fully and try again. If it has a fire button, most devices turn on and off with five quick clicks, so you may have locked it by accident. On a draw-activated pod, a blocked airflow sensor can stop it firing, so give the mouthpiece and airflow a gentle clear. If none of that works, the contacts where the pod meets the battery may be dirty. Wipe them with a dry cloth.

Weak or no vapour

A weak hit usually means a low battery or a tired coil. Charge it first, then look at the coil. If it is more than a week or two old, or the flavour has dropped off, replace it. Check the airflow is open, and make sure there is enough e-liquid in the tank or pod to reach the coil.

It tastes burnt

A burnt taste means the coil is firing dry. Prime a new coil before use, keep the liquid topped up and stay within the coil's wattage. If it is still burnt, the coil has gone and needs replacing.

It is leaking

Leaks usually come from an overfilled tank, a pod that is not seated properly, or the pressure change when you travel. Do not overfill, seat the pod firmly, and wipe any liquid off the contacts. If a tank keeps leaking, the coil may be loose or cross-threaded.

It gurgles

A gurgle is liquid where it should not be, usually a flooded coil from overfilling or drawing too hard. Take softer, slower pulls, and if it persists, clear the pod and let it settle.

The pod will not register

Reseat the pod, then clean the contacts on both the pod and the battery. If it still will not read after that, the pod has likely failed, so try a fresh one.

When to stop fixing it

If a device fires on its own, gets hot or will not hold charge, stop using it and replace it. A faulty battery is not worth the risk.

Nothing to troubleshoot

A melt has no battery and no coil, so none of this applies. NYXE dissolves in the mouth with no device in the loop, which is one less thing to charge or replace.

FAQ

Why is my vape not hitting?

Usually a flat battery or a worn coil. Charge it, then replace the coil if the flavour has dropped.

Why is my vape not charging?

Check the cable and the charging port for lint, and try a different plug. If it still will not charge, the battery may have failed.

Why is my pod leaking?

Often an overfilled or loosely seated pod. Do not overfill, seat it firmly, and keep the contacts dry.

Why does my vape taste burnt?

The coil is firing dry. Prime it, top up the liquid and stay within its wattage, or replace it.
